A few months ago the Ritz-Carlton finished a $180 million transformation at its AAA Five-Diamond Kapalua, Hawaii, hotel with the opening of the 17,500-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa in Kapalua on the island of Maui.
Rooms at the hotel have also been renovated and the complex is located on the healing waters of Waihua, which the ancient Hawaiians believed was the most pure form of water.
The spa features 15 treatment rooms, with half opening to private outdoor shower gardens, and all with iPod docking stations with pre-programmed music selections and robe warmers. The spa also features two outdoor couples cabanas, men’s and women’s relaxation areas with the depiction of lava stone grotto areas, steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools, and the only coed indoor/outdoor relaxation area in Hawaii with a whirlpool.
There’s nothing like a Hawaiian vacation in the dead of winter to warm your chilled bones.

While he didn’t win the Billabong and Taj’s Small Fries Event held yesterday in Australia, 11 year old Jack Robinson certainly did make a splash on the surfing scene wining the under 12 division.
The small fry made all three finals and won his Under 12 Division final with outstanding scores of 9.63 and an 8.5 out of 10. Robinson had to settle for 3rd place in the Under 14 Division final without a reasonable second scoring ride. He also placed 3rd in the Under 16 Division final.
This young up-and-coming surfer is certainly one to keep your eyes on!

After a two-year absence, endangered Leatherback Turtles have been spotted again off the central coast of California this past summer.
Scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have been tagging and monitoring the Leatherbacks, which have seen population declines of 90% in the last 25 years (despite being a species that has survived for over 100 million years).
It’s thought that the turtles were lured back to California by an increase of jellyfish populations, which they love to eat. Their stinging tentacles make for an irresistible snack after the 7,000-mile swim across the Pacific from Indonesia and the Solomon Islands, where the turtles nest and lay their eggs. The huge abundance of jellyfish apparently is caused by increased upwelling of nutrients like krill and plankton from just above the sea floor this past year.
The Leatherback Turtle is the largest of all living sea turtles. They average about 6 feet long and can weigh from 500-1500 lbs!

We found this great travel article titled ‘Boardies, Bikinis and a Bicycle’ that talks about vacationing on Rottnest Island in Australia where cars are banned and all you need are your boardshorts, (boardies), and a bicycle!
Apparently the island is basically flat for riding and lined with beaches filled with bike racks where you can surf, snorkel or just relax.
“Bikes buzz about with surfboards strapped to them, the pointed boards looking like heavily starched sails. Snorkels and flippers bounce around on cyclists’ backs and cycling fashion is more likely to be board shorts and bikinis than bibs and braces. Cycling here isn’t the poor-man’s option; it’s the transport of choice.”

Look who’s wearing some men’s board shorts! Yep, President Obama was photographed on his recent trip to Hawaii over Christmas wearing nothing but surf trunks.
It’s a known fact he’s an avid body surfer so we’re sure he practically lives in swim trunks while he’s back at his childhood stomping grounds on Oahu in Hawaii.
So, don’t worry that you have to be a surfer to wear boardshorts – they look great on just about everybody no matter what you’re doing.

Hello and welcome to our brand new blog and our brand new website: Buy-Board-Shorts.com!!
We’re just a couple of surfers who got tired of paying outrageous prices for name brand board shorts and swim trunks just because they’ve got somebody’s name or logo on them.
We surf, we wear out our shorts and we want new ones… BUT we don’t want to pay $50-$75 for boardshorts so we can advertise for Quicksilver, Roxy and Billabong!
So we searched around and while we were vacationing in Hawaii we hooked up with a guy who manufactures his own line of board shorts for men, women and even kids. He doesn’t have a famous name or even a cool logo BUT he does have inexpensive boardshorts and surf trunks that we wore, surfed in and loved so we decided it was a “go”.
We’re now part of the Discount Beach Gear Family of Stores where you can also pick up some awesome rash guard shirts to pair up with our board shorts before you hit the beach!
