The 8th Annual Surfing Arts, Science and Issues Conference is coming to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla, California February 28 and March 1, 2009.

This year’s conference is all about efforts to try and take the guesswork out of making better waves and better surfing equipment. Of course, everyone has a different take on what makes a good wave – and evaluating surfboard performance can often lead to opinions that are little more than ‘psychosomatic’ (Steve Pezman, 2000). However, with some outstanding engineers and clear-thinking surfers on the agenda, as well as a first-ever fin ‘turbulence’ project at the Scripps Hydraulic Laboratory, SASIC 8 promises to be an event unique in the history of surfers trying to create waves and equipment to match their dreams.
